Technology overload!

June 2, 2010 at 8:22 pm

I’m in the middle of a computer switch right now, so I haven’t been posting much anywhere!
I just bought a MacBook and I haven’t even synced my iPhone with it yet, let alone set up my iTunes library. It’s kind of sad, but hopefully I will get a chance to do so on the weekend.

In other news, I have a new job!
I am now a cupcake decorator! It’s pretty much the most awesome job ever, and it’s pretty refreshing to not sit in front of the computer all day or have to think about work when I leave work.

I’ll start posting tons of photos soon, in the short time that I’ve been there I’ve already made some pretty fun stuff to share!
I’m going to be starting a cake blog soon as well, to post tutorials and photos, and hopefully turn it into some sort of business on the side.

Anyway, I’m off to write blogs for my other site!

Oh and p.s. I bought an iPad! It’s amazing. I’ll write about it soon!

Busy Little Bee!

January 24, 2010 at 8:45 pm

Well hello there! You know, for someone who is currently unemployed, I’ve been keeping myself pretty busy!

I’ve been working on some crafts – I FINALLY learned how to use my sewing machine thanks to a great video posted at Style School, and well, reading the manual for my sewing machine. My lines may not be straight but hey, I can wind a bobbin like it’s nobody’s business!

I also built myself a lightbox out of a lot of tape, paper and foamcore. I need to grab an extension cord before I can set it up permanently, but hopefully you’ll be seeing a ton of photos soon.

School has been keeping me busy, I’ve been trying to keep up on my work early on in the week so that I don’t have to worry about it. One of my classes doesn’t actually require any weekly effort. All I have to do is complete 2 assignments and a final exam, which is both cool and a little scary. My marketing class is pretty interesting, I find the format a little confusing though. The content isn’t always up at the beginning of the week, so I can’t really finish that work until closer to the end.

I haven’t made any cakes recently – but I will be making one this weekend for a friends baby shower, so I’ll be sure to get that posted here! I’m hoping to start doing some cake/cupcake orders later on in the year. I want to take some more classes first though.

I went up to Blue Mountain on Friday – finally making use of my 5×7 pass! I spent an hour or so on the little beginner hill trying to teach myself, with the help of my BF. It was mostly a lot of falling, and I have a ton of battle bruises to prove it. The good news is, I did it and I can’t wait to get a little more purple next week!

That’s about all I’ve been up to, I’ve been spending so much time reading blogs that I really have no energy to actually blog. My feed reader probably hits about 300/day and I read every single one of them. Crazy, I know – but it’s all part of a little something I have up my sleeve!

I’m off to do some homework – so I can spend tomorrow creating!

Hope you had a good weekend =)

All Cake, All The Time

January 5, 2010 at 9:01 am

I’ve made about 4 cakes since I last updated – but I only have photos of 3, so here they are!

This was my second cake using Fondant (the first one is the one I don’t have any photos of – it was pretty terrible!). I made it for my mom’s birthday – for some reason she wanted ladybugs and dragonfly’s. Everything is edible – minus the floral wire =)

The next cake, was another birthday cake but for my BF. He’s into tennis so I thought it would be cool to attempt to make a tennis cake! Everything is made out of fondant, and completely edible

The next cake was for cake class – but I made it for New Years Eve. Super fun and colourful and once again all made out of fondant. Excuse the missing piece – I didn’t remember to take photos until it was too late!

I’m done all of my classes now, but for the next 4 weeks I’m taking an extra one on Gum Paste Flowers. We’re not making a cake, but I will be sure to post all of the cool flowers we make!

Cake Decorating – Course 2 Final

November 4, 2009 at 11:39 pm

Today I finished Level 2 of the Wilton Cake Decorating Courses.

I’m pretty proud of my cake this week! I really like the basketweave but I definitely need some practice. Same goes for my rope borders, they seem a little thick!

The coolest part of this cake is that everything is edible. Every single flower can be eaten, it’s awesome!

Next course we’re learning wedding cake techniques and tiered cakes. This is probably the most fun I’ve had ever!

Check out my cake and let me know what you think!

Craft book loves

October 13, 2009 at 10:10 pm

Bought some new crafty books today! (Well the BF bought one, and I’m VERY gratious…so is my bank account!)

  1. The Complete Photo Guide to Sewing
    • I needed a hands on, full of pictures book that would teach me how to use my sewing machine and sewing basics
  2. Weekend Sewing
    • I’ve heard SOOOOOOOOO many good things about this book/author that I HAD to pick it up for some project ideas
  3. Stich ‘N Bitch Crochet
    • I’ve been trying to teach myself to crochet, but I’m failing MISERABLY! I’ve known about the Stitch ‘N Bitch Knitting book for quite some time but I had NO IDEA there was a Crochet version. I got super excited and bought it (Also because it’s subtitles “The Happy Hooker”).

I’m off to gain some crochet knowledge!

Happy crafting =)

p.s. Cake class in the morning!
