Well I tried to spend today working on a Style School project – the skecthbook cover.
Unfortunately, I like to do things off the top of my head instead of following instructions. The cover came out great, but of course my sketchbook didn’t end up fitting inside!
It’s back to the drawing board for me on this project – but now I know for next time. Follow. Instructions!
I think it was just one of those days. I wound a new bobbin with some pink thread, and when I put it inside the sewing machine, I guess I didn’t put it in all the way because it jammed and there was a whole ton of knotted up thread inside the bobbin mechanism. Not fun. This happened to me twice, I think it’s because I’m not connecting the needle and the bobbin thread properly.
I managed to finish my studio apron, and aside from nothing being straight – I think it turned out pretty good considering it was my first time EVER using a sewing machine.
I need to invest in thread that actually matches my fabric! Using black on the pink was a bad idea, especially since I can’t sew. Matching thread would definitely hide my lopsided sewing.

Looks awesome to me! I never would have known you had never used a machine before.
I think it looks fabulous!! And that fabric is gorgeous. Very well done, especially for a first-timer!
