Pattern Fail

Well I tried to spend today working on a Style School project – the skecthbook cover.

Unfortunately, I like to do things off the top of my head instead of following instructions. The cover came out great, but of course my sketchbook didn’t end up fitting inside!
It’s back to the drawing board for me on this project – but now I know for next time. Follow. Instructions!

I think it was just one of those days. I wound a new bobbin with some pink thread, and when I put it inside the sewing machine, I guess I didn’t put it in all the way because it jammed and there was a whole ton of knotted up thread inside the bobbin mechanism. Not fun. This happened to me twice, I think it’s because I’m not connecting the needle and the bobbin thread properly.

I managed to finish my studio apron, and aside from nothing being straight – I think it turned out pretty good considering it was my first time EVER using a sewing machine.

I need to invest in thread that actually matches my fabric! Using black on the pink was a bad idea, especially since I can’t sew. Matching thread would definitely hide my lopsided sewing.

Craft book loves

Bought some new crafty books today! (Well the BF bought one, and I’m VERY gratious…so is my bank account!)

  1. The Complete Photo Guide to Sewing
    • I needed a hands on, full of pictures book that would teach me how to use my sewing machine and sewing basics
  2. Weekend Sewing
    • I’ve heard SOOOOOOOOO many good things about this book/author that I HAD to pick it up for some project ideas
  3. Stich ‘N Bitch Crochet
    • I’ve been trying to teach myself to crochet, but I’m failing MISERABLY! I’ve known about the Stitch ‘N Bitch Knitting book for quite some time but I had NO IDEA there was a Crochet version. I got super excited and bought it (Also because it’s subtitles “The Happy Hooker”).

I’m off to gain some crochet knowledge!

Happy crafting =)

p.s. Cake class in the morning!
